Nominalised infinitives are always neuter and name an activity as an abstract whole; they take an and are capitalised: das Lesen, beim Nachdenken, zum Verständnis.

Substantivised adjectives/participles are capitalised but still decline like adjectives:

Common mistakes:
- Forgetting to capitalise (das lesen) or to add the .
