in Saus und Braus leben

to live it up; to live in luxury and extravagance

Origin

Originally the expression contained only 'Saus': Middle High German 'in dem sūse leben' already applied 'sūse' (the rushing of wind, the roaring of waves) to noisy, indulgent high living. 'Braus' was added as a rhyming companion; the present paired form is attested from the late 17th century (1691 in Stieler).
