seid or seit?

Pronounced alike, spelled differently and grammatically unrelated: seid is a form of sein (ihr seid), seit a preposition of time (seit gestern). If you can insert ihr, write the d.

seid

The second person plural of sein. Never stands alone, always with ihr - including the imperative: Seid leise!

seit

A preposition with the dative for a starting point that still holds. Also a conjunction: seitdem.

Seit gestern regnet es.It has been raining since yesterday.

The mistake

There is an ihr in the sentence, so it is the verb form with d. With t it would be a preposition with nothing to govern, and the sentence would have no verb at all.

Rule of thumb

d as in du and ihr, t as in Zeit (time). If a personal pronoun is next to it, it is seid.
