Common mistakes. Two things to watch. First, the case is dative (an dem Kurs), not accusative - many learners wrongly say an den Kurs. Second, teilnehmen is separable: in a main clause the prefix teil goes to the end (Ich nehme an dem Kurs teil), while the infinitive teilnehmen stays whole. For a thing, ask with woran and refer back with daran.
