Pronoun 'wir' (we, nominative)

wir means "we" - the first-person plural subject pronoun. Use it whenever you and at least one other person do something together.

After wir, the verb takes the ending -en, which looks exactly like the infinitive:

• Wir lernen zusammen Deutsch. - We are learning German together.
• Wir gehen ins Kino. - We are going to the cinema.
• Wir sind aus Österreich. - We are from Austria.

This is convenient: for almost every verb, the wir-form equals the dictionary form (lernen → wir lernen, gehen → wir gehen).

Even the irregular verbs follow this in the plural: wir sind* (we are), wir haben* (we have).

Common mistakes:

• Don't use the singular ending: it is wir kommen, never wir kommt.
• Keep wir (we, subject) apart from uns (us / to us), which is the accusative and dative form.
• A small but useful exception: sein is the one verb whose plural form (sind) is not identical to the infinitive (sein).
