Local preposition 'unter' (under, Wohin?/where to? + accusative)

unter with movement means under / underneath - you move a thing to a place beneath another. As a two-way preposition, unter takes the accusative for movement towards (question Wohin?).

The rule:

• Wohin? (movement underneath) → unter + Akkusativ
• Wo? (position) → unter + Dativ

Accusative articles after unter: unter den (m), unter die (f), unter das (n). (No contraction.)

Common mistakes:

• Using the dative when something moves: Die Katze geht unter dem Tisch is wrong - say unter den Tisch.
• Forgetting the masculine change der → den.
