Connector 'demzufolge' (accordingly)

What it is. demzufolge means accordingly / therefore and draws a conclusion from a stated fact - literally following from that. It is typical of reports and formal exposition.

How it works. It is a conjunctional adverb; at the start of a clause it causes inversion, with the finite verb before the subject.

• Die Zahlen sind gestiegen, demzufolge wächst die Firma. - The figures have risen; accordingly the company is growing.
• Die Studie ist methodisch sauber, demzufolge sind ihre Ergebnisse belastbar. - The study is methodologically sound; accordingly its results are robust.
• Der Vertrag wurde nie unterzeichnet, demzufolge bestehen keine Ansprüche. - The contract was never signed; accordingly there are no claims.

Common mistakes. Keep the inversion (demzufolge wächst die Firma). Note that demzufolge draws a conclusion from a fact; do not over-use it as a plain also. It also exists as a relative-like form (dem Bericht zufolge = according to the report) - that zufolge-use is a different construction.
