Explanation
What it is. The has two main uses: it expresses future intentions/predictions, and - especially with wohl - a present-time assumption ("he is probably ...").
How it is formed. Conjugated werden in second position + Infinitiv at the end:
- werden (conjugated) + ... + .
Examples.
- Ich werde nächstes Jahr nach Spanien reisen. - I will travel to Spain next year. (intention)
- Er wird wohl noch im Stau stehen. - He is probably still stuck in traffic. (assumption)
- Das wird schon klappen. - That will surely work out.
Common mistakes. Do not confuse werden + Infinitiv () with werden + Partizip II (passive): Er wird kommen (he will come) vs. Er wird gesehen (he is seen). Also note that for near-certain plans German often just uses the present tense: Morgen fahre ich nach Berlin is more natural than the .
About Future I (assumption and intention)
expresses future plans and, often with 'wohl', present assumptions.
Formed with conjugated 'werden' plus an at the end. It marks intentions/predictions and, especially with 'wohl', a present-time assumption.
Das drückt Zukunft/Absicht und - oft mit 'wohl' - eine Vermutung aus.
Caution
Don't confuse this 'werden + Infinitiv' with the passive ('werden + Partizip II'). For near-certain future plans German often just uses the present tense.
