woke

woke; socially/politically alert (often used pejoratively or ironically in German discourse)

Origin

Anglicism from African-American English, where 'stay woke' called for alertness to racism and injustice. As an 'woke' means politically very attentive and firmly opposed to discrimination (sometimes excessively so). In German discourse the word is often used as a flag-word or stigma-word - depending on one's stance, either approving or polemically pejorative for (supposedly excessive) progressive attitudes.
