Was geht ab

what's up?, what's going on? (casual greeting)

Origin

'Was geht ab?' is a casual youth-slang greeting and is regarded as a direct loan translation of English 'What's up?'. Here 'abgehen' functions as a state ('what's going on?, how are things?'). The phrase is often shortened to 'Was geht?' and has by now partly passed into general colloquial usage.
