Tea

Anglicism from the African-American LGBTQ / drag and ballroom culture of the US South (1990s). 'Tea' goes back to the letter 'T' for 'truth', which in English sounds like 'tea' – 'spill the tea' is a blend of 'spill the beans' (to reveal) and this 'T'. Through shows like 'RuPaul's Drag Race' and social media (Black Twitter) the expression entered the mainstream and German from the 2010s. 'Tea' means juicy gossip; 'spill the tea' = to share the gossip.
