sheesh

exclamation of surprise/admiration - like 'wow', 'damn', 'krass'

Origin

'Sheesh' is a variant of the English slang exclamation 'geez', which itself derives from 'Jesus'; the Oxford English Dictionary records it as early as 1959 in an American local newspaper. As an exclamation of surprise, amazement or admiration (like 'wow', 'krass', 'uff') it spread globally chiefly through internet memes, pop songs and TikTok. In Germany 'sheesh' made the 2021 Jugendwort des Jahres shortlist but lost to 'cringe'.
