Origin
A term for the circle of fashionable, trend-setting figures of public life, often slightly mocking. The word is formed from 'schick' (chic) with a mock-Italian ending, influenced by Italian 'sciccheria' (elegance); it is documented from 1959 and is especially associated with Munich (cf. 'Schickimicki'). Today it is mostly used pejoratively for the status-seeking, glamorous upper set.
