Origin
From Turkish 'para' ('money'), which etymologically goes back via Persian 'pāre' ('piece'); in the Ottoman Empire and in several South-Slavic languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian) 'Para' was also a small coin/currency unit. It entered German youth slang mainly through German rap and is used there synonymously with 'Kohle', 'Kies' or 'Zaster' (e.g. 'Para machen' = to make money). Not to be confused with 'Para' in the sense of 'paranoia'.
