„mega“ derives from Ancient Greek „mégas“ (μέγας, 'big, mighty, significant'). As the prefix „mega-“ it intensifies words to mean 'exceptionally large/outstanding' (megacool, megageil) and in science and technology denotes one million times a unit (megabyte, megawatt). In colloquial and youth language „mega“ is used as an emotional intensifier – and also standalone in the sense of 'great, fantastic'.
