Kohle

money, dough, cash (colloquial; lit. 'coal')

Origin

Literally 'coal' (the fuel); colloquially the word stands for money and belongs to a whole family of money synonyms such as 'Knete', 'Moos', 'Schotter', 'Zaster' and 'Moneten'. The transfer rests on the vivid image of coal as a valuable, 'heating' commodity. It remains one of the most common casual words for money today.
