Ick

a sudden turn-off in dating - a small thing that instantly kills your attraction

Origin

'Ick' comes from English, where as an exclamation like 'yuck' or 'ew' it expresses a feeling of disgust or revulsion (Cambridge Dictionary). In the dating context, the 'Ick' describes a sudden, off-putting moment in which interest in a person abruptly dies - often over some small thing. The term spread mainly via TikTok, where users make humorous 'ick lists' of their turn-offs. (Not to be confused with 'ick' = 'I' in Berlin dialect.)
