Heckmeck

fuss, palaver, unnecessary commotion (jocular colloquial)

Origin

Colloquial for needless fuss, commotion or chaos ('Don't make such a Heckmeck!'). It is a rhyming reduplication: according to Kluge an 18th-century rhyme formation modelled on 'meckern' (to grumble), linked to older forms like 'Hackemack' or 'Hack und Mack' (15th c., 'riffraff, gossip'). The tone is jocularly dismissive.
