Ehrenmodus

honour mode; going all-out, giving your best (playful, from gaming + 'Ehre')

Origin

A jokey coinage from the youth-slang 'Ehre' (honour) and the gaming word '' (mode). It belongs to the 'Ehre' word family around 'Ehrenmann/Ehrenfrau', which was Youth Word of the Year 2018 and comes strongly from German rap: here 'Ehre' stands for recognition and respect. Someone who switches into 'honour mode' gives full effort and behaves exemplarily. The exact origin of the compound itself is undocumented – it is a playful ad-hoc formation off the back of the 'Ehrenmann' wave.
