dissen

to disrespect, run someone down, insult

Origin

Borrowed from English 'to dis(s)', a clipping of 'to disrespect'. The expression arose in African-American English and became known through hip-hop; in German it has been in use since the early 1990s and lexicalized since 1995. 'Dissen' means to treat someone disrespectfully in public, to put them down or insult them.
