Bratan

bro, buddy, mate (friendly term of address)

Origin

Derives from Russian 'brat' (брат, 'brother'); 'Bratan' is a colloquial, affectionate form that also occurs in other Slavic, Baltic and Balkan languages. In German youth slang it serves as a casual form of address for close friends and buddies, comparable to 'bro', 'Brudi' or 'Digga'. It became known in Germany mainly through the German rap scene, especially via the Berlin-based rapper Capital Bra, who uses it frequently in his lyrics. An unofficial feminine form is 'Bratina'.
