Akhi

From Arabic أخي (achī/akhī, 'my brother'), composed of 'akh' ('brother') and the possessive suffix -ī ('my'). In Islam it stands for the 'brother in faith', as Muslims are seen as bonded like siblings. In youth slang it is used (often also spelled 'Achi' or 'Akhy') for close friends who are 'like brothers', comparable to 'Brudi' or 'bro'; the female counterpart is 'Ukhti' ('my sister'). Through social media and the rap scene the term was nominated for Jugendwort des Jahres in 2024.
